Models at the 2012 Met Ball

Gisele Bundchen is always one to watch at the Met Ball.  This year she wore a slinky black Givenchy dress with embellishments.  A slicked back bun and fresh-make up were all she needed.

Doutzen Kroes always brings her A-game to the Met Ball.  She has done the princess-style ballgown thing a number of times.  This year she wore a great black and white Roland Mouret dress with wavy hair and red lips.

Karlie Kloss accompanied Jason Wu in a sweet pink chiffon and lace dress which showcased her amazing height.

Coco Rocha was a bit of surprise - she wore a vintage Givenchy pant suit, originally worn by Elizabeth Taylor.  She did work this bright ensemble, completed with pink-tipped hair and satin heels.

Candice Swanepoel looked amazing in a custom Rag & Bone dress - the cobalt blue was stunning against her blonde hair, blue eyes and glowing tan.  Here she is with the label's David Neville and Marcus Wrainwright.

Chanel Iman was Tom Ford's date and wore a full sleeved, high-neck number from his Fall 2012 collection.  It's dramatic but didn't suit Chanel's youthful persona.

Karolina Kurkova just killed it on the red carpet.  She wore a Rachel Zoe dress with blush sequins and also wore a matching turban - this is what we expect to see at the Met Gala.

Anne V, Adam Levine's ex-girlfriend attended the event in a shimmery blue Prada dress with a micro glass beaded fringe.  I thought she looked great, especially with the bouffant bun.

Jessica Stam wore a Christian Dior dress.  While I liked her powder blue peplum dress, the jet black hair doesn't suit her at all.

Milla Jovovich wore a Prada dress.  The red and black satin dress with a fringed skirt was a good look for her.

Jessica Alba in Michael Kors - 2012 Met Ball

Jessica Alba wore a Michael Kors dress to this year's Met Gala.

The deep gold, lame gown with one-shoulder and pleats was incredible on Jessica; the way it fit her really highlighted her tiny waist too.

She wore it with glossy, wavy hair swept to the side.  Romantic make-up, gold earrings and a clutch completed her mesmerising look.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Prada - 2012 Met Ball

Gwyneth Paltrow was the first name I heard in relation to the rumours of who might be wearing Prada at this year's Met Gala.

Gwyneth has had a successful history with Prada when it comes to the red carpet so I was expecting something jaw-dropping. And that did happen, when I saw that she had gone sans a bra.

Thankfully, no malfunction happened and it was apparent just how gorgeous this asymmetrical short dress is - I especially loved the sides with the paillette detail.

A glamorous low bun, gorgeous earrings, a pink clutch and satin blue heels (both by Prada) completed her look.

Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan - 2012 Met Ball

Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan. Need I say more?

'The Vampire Diaries' actress was beyond beautiful in a custom Donna Karan Atelier gown.  The resplendent black and gold dress fit her impeccably and I'm sure she must have turned more than a few heads.

She completed the look with an updo and H.Stern jewels.

Diane Kruger in Prada - 2012 Met Ball

Diane Kruger wore a custom Prada dress to this year's Met Ball.

La Kruger looked comfortable in this intensely violet layered crepe chiffon v-neck gown with an ostrich feather hem.

There's just something so chic and bohemian about this dress.  Straight locks, pink lips and  long gold chains completed her look.

Carey Mulligan in Prada - 2012 Met Ball

Carey Mulligan, who co-chaired this year's Costume Institute Gala, wore a custom Prada dress.

The gold and silver paillette dress was almost other-worldly and dripping with opulence.

She wore it confidently, with a quiff hairstyle, smoky eyes, nude lips and ivory satin Prada pumps.

Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen - 2012 Met Ball

Queen Cate Blanchett arrived in an Alexander McQueen gown to this year's Costume Institute Gala.

She wore the black feathered dress with her usual serenity and poise. One someone else, the dress could have been overwhelming, but not on Cate.

She wore it very simply - with a quiff updo and a glossy, neutral lip shade.

Emma Stone in Lanvin - 2012 Met Ball

Emma Stone brought her adorable self to the Met Ball in NYC on Monday night.

She was clad in a Lanvin dress, custom-made for her by Alber Elbaz.  I, for one, loved this bright, square neck frock, studded with embroidered, crystal flowers.

Short dresses normally look out of place at the Met Ball but this dress was special enough and it suited Emma's personality perfectly.

She wore it with a doll-like hairstyle and satin pumps by Lanvin.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy - 2012 Met Ball

Rooney Mara returned to her comfort zone of the black dress as she attended the Met Ball in NYC on Monday night.

She wore a lacy, one-shoulder Givenchy Couture dress which had a leather waistband and a sheer skirt.

Her hair was slicked back into a low bun, and she sported a dark lip colour.

Beyonce in Givenchy - 2012 Met Ball

Beyonce made her first proper red carpet return since having her daughter, at the Met gala in NYC.

She wore a beautiful Givenchy Couture dress with beading and a plumed violet hem.  It was everything we expect from Beyonce - drama, class and elegance.

I love that she wore her hair in a sleek ponytail and added a coral lip colour too.

Kate Bosworth in Prada - 2012 Met Ball

Kate Bosworth was all kinds of fierce at the Met Ball this year.

She wore a backless, navy and wine hued Prada ostrich feather dress but didn't stop there.  Kate took the look further with slick hair and dark make-up, finishing it off with Prada heels.

She worked two trends of the night: feathers and dark make-up.

Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katrantzou - 2012 Met Ball

Elizabeth Banks commanded attention at the Met Gala this year.

She wore a Mary Katrantzou Fall 2012 gown which had some very visually powerful details like the shoulders, peplum and the digital print.

Elizabeth really stood her own though and reminded me of Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett - always a wonderful thing.

Claire Danes in J. Mendel - 2012 Met Ball

Claire Danes wore a white J. Mendel dress to this year's Met Ball.

She was stunning in the asymmetrical, silk custom dress.  We're accustomed to seeing Claire in conservative, covered up dresses so this was a surprise of sorts.

But she did wear it very well and her hairstyle was possibly my favourite for the night.  Make-up consisted of a flick of mascara and a nude lip colour.  She also carried a sky-blue clutch and wore heels by Christian Louboutin.

Dianna Agron in Carolina Herrera - 2012 Met Ball

Dianna Agron wore Carolina Herrera of course.

She was swathed in a beautiful, forest green silk-chiffon gown with a plunging neckline and a tiered skirt, finished with a brighter belt.

Her hair, sultry make-up and the Judith Leiber clutch were absolutely perfect.

Lea Michele in Diane Von Furstenberg - 2012 Met Ball

Lea Michele tried her best to be the centre of attention like always.

She wore a sequined, navy blue Diane von Furstenberg gown with a plunging neckline and a high centre split too.

A faux bob, Lorraine Schwartz diamonds, gun-metal Louboutins and a matching DVF clutch completed her look.  At least she isn't overposing.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Valentino - 2012 Met Ball

SJP was clad in head-to-toe Valentino at this year's Met Ball.

She looked very pretty in the Spring 2012 Couture dress and posed with the Mr. Garavani himself.

The full-sleeved, pink floral print gown could have done without the gold cuffs on both wrists but then that's the signature, unique SJP touch.

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana - 2012 Met Ball

Scarlett Johansson looked like what I imagine a fairytale princess would look like at this year's Met gala in NYC.

She was radiant in a custom, nude Dolce & Gabbana tulle gown with an off-shoulder neckline, a heavily embellished bodice and a frothy skirt.

The limp hair could have been better but I'm just glad she didn't wear a cocktail dress.

Kristen Stewart in Balenciaga - 2012 Met Ball

Kristen Stewart represented Balenciaga at the Met Ball this year.

She wore a colourful cocktail dress from the Fall 2012 collection.  This might be the most comfortable and 'in her element' K. Stew has looked at the Met Ball.

Signature messy hair, almost no make-up and some busy heels were the finishing touches.

Ashley Greene in Donna Karan - 2012 Met Ball

Ashley Greene wore a Donna Karan Atelier dress to this year's Met Gala.

Donna Karan never fails to make amazing clothes for Ashley and this was no exception.  The off-shoulder, chiffon and beaded gown was verging on bridal territory but looked beautiful nonetheless.

Loose, wavy locks, natural make-up and a silver clutch finished up the look.

Eva Mendes in Prada - 2012 Met Ball

Eva Mendes looked her very best at the Met Ball.

She wore a strapless, tangerine silk Prada dress with an embroidered and beaded bust and peplum waist.

The colour was gorgeous on her, and she wore it with a bombshell-style blow-out.
