Rooney Mara in Givenchy - 2012 Met Ball

Rooney Mara returned to her comfort zone of the black dress as she attended the Met Ball in NYC on Monday night.

She wore a lacy, one-shoulder Givenchy Couture dress which had a leather waistband and a sheer skirt.

Her hair was slicked back into a low bun, and she sported a dark lip colour.

Rooney Mara In Givenchy - 2012 Oscars

Rooney Mara did not wear black to the Oscars.

The actress, who was nominated for her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' wore a Givenchy Couture gown.

The sculptural bodice, and the mermaid hem are lovely and the colour suits Rooney's skin tone.  She wore her hair in a ballerina bun (but kept her bangs) and completed the look with red lips.

Rooney Mara In J. Mendel - 2012 Costume Designers Guild Awards

Rooney Mara wore a J. Mendel Fall 2012 dress to the 2012 Costume Designers Guild Awards in Beverley Hills.

The eggplant coloured dress with a plunge-neck dress was great on Rooney (and I'm glad she's finally running out of LBDs).

She wore it not with black pumps, but nude sandals and used a lipstick that matched her dress.

Rooney Mara In Thierry Mugler & Asos - 2012 Oscar Nominees Luncheon

Rooney Mara (nominated in the Best Actress category for 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo') attended the Oscars Luncheon in a jumpsuit by Asos, topped off with a Thierry Mugler jacket.

After wearing dresses through most of her red carpet appearances thus far, it was great to see Rooney sport a jumpsuit.  It had a sculptural feel to it, as did the snow-white jacket - typically Rooney.

A simple ponytail with blunt bangs and warm make-up completed her look.

Rooney Mara In Louis Vuitton - Santa Barbara International Film Festival

Hold the presses. Rooney Mara isn't wearing black or white.

The Academy Award-nominated actress left me shocked in a forest green
Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2012 dress as she attended the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where she received the Virtuoso award as an upcoming actress.

The structured, sleeveless frock with dips at the waist was wonderful on Rooney.  She also wore the accompanying coat outside.

A low ponytail with a deep side-parting, kohl-rimmed eyes, neutral lips and Giambattista Valli sandals were the finishing touches.

Rooney Mara In Givenchy - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Tokyo Premiere

'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' premiered in Tokyo today.

Rooney Mara wore a Givenchy Spring 2012 dress to the event.  I'm sure many of you will be pleased to see her in something non-black, I sure am.

The sculptural white dress was worn by Rooney without the sheer underlay which was a good idea. As usual, she went for a lacquered locks look and completed it with sleek white sandals.

2012 Golden Globes - Black

Rooney Mara wore black, as was expected.  The Best Actress (Drama) nominee wore a Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2012 gown.  The plunge-neck tulle bodice & long column skirt were simple yet perfect for the scale of the event.  Rooney chose to sweep back her bangs and wore very less make-up.

Debra Messing wore a taffeta, one-shoulder dress by Monique Lhuillier, choosing to add colour via her fabulous Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Kate Winslet went for colour block in a gorgeous, silk dress by Jenny Packham.  The key-hole top & white skirt were punched up with a gold embellished waist belt.   Kate wore her hair in an updo and added gold earrings by Fred Leighton & carried an embellished clutch.

Julianne Moore left behind her crazy dress sense and opted instead, for this strapless, Chanel gown that has a peplum silhouette (tad unnecessary).  She wore her hair in shiny waves and added green tasseled earrings (an emerging trend & gorgeous with her hair colour).

Mila Kunis, who's the new face of Miss Dior, wore a classic gown from the Christian Dior Spring 2012 collection.  Compared to her efforts last year, this felt a little bland.  But then she was only presenting so it's fair.  She put her hair in a sleek bun and wore Cartier jewels.

Salma Hayek looked beautiful in a Gucci Premiere gown.  The strapless dress had a bedazzled bodice and a shimmery pleated skirt.  Salma kept her hair down, in tousled waves,  wore a neutral lip colour, gold statement earrings and carried a mini satin clutch.

Zooey Deschanel was a pleasant surprise in a custom Prada dress.  The 'New Girl' actress, who was nominated in the Best Actress in a TV Series (Comedy) was delightful in the unusual black satin dress that had lime green and silver beading.  A glossy, retro hairstyle and pink lips completed her look.

Claire Danes wore a custom J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2012 gown which according to the Best Actress in a TV Series award winning actress, was "all about the back".  And rightly so, the backless monochromatic gown was bang on trend with all that embellishment.  Claire went with a messy bun (which we rarely see on her) and red lips which were nice changes.

Meryl Streep, who won the Best Actress (Drama) award for 'Iron Lady' wore a black shirt dress with lace & a taffeta skirt - all by Alessandra Rich.  She looks elegant.  And can do no wrong.

Rooney Mara In Lanvin - 2012 AFI Awards

Rooney Mara went back to black (with the addition of a dull gold this time) in a Lanvin Pe-Fall 2012 dress for the AFI Awards.

Love this dress!  The ruffled bodice is so architectural, as is the black skirt.
Rooney wore her hair up, and added Brian Atwood 'Debra Due' satin pumps to the look.

Rooney Mara In Miu Miu - 2012 National Board of Review Awards Gala

It feels so good to not write Rooney Mara & 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' in once sentence... oh wait.  But you know what I mean, right?

Rooney wore a Miu Miu LBD for the National Board of Review Gala in NYC last night.

Yes, it's black, and an LBD... but the YSL shoes are kind of colourful right?

Rooney Mara In Dion Lee & Valentino - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Rome Photocall & Premiere

Rooney Mara travelled to Rome for the photocall & premiere of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.

For the photocall, Rooney wore a tried and tested LBD - this one by Dion Lee - that had a leather finish & cutouts.

For the premiere however, Rooney wore red!  The semi-sheer Valentino Spring 2012 gown looks lovely on her.  I like how her blunt bangs & minimal make-up balance out the sweetness of the dress.

Rooney Mara In Michael Kors - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Berlin Premiere

After the Miu Miu ensemble at the photocall, Rooney changed into a Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2012 dress for the Berlin premiere of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.

Girl's on a roll.

Rooney wore the black mullet dress sans the belt and black peeptoes.

Rooney Mara In Miu Miu - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Berlin Photocall

Rooney Mara jetted off to Berlin, for the premiere of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.

For the day photocall, she wore a Miu Miu Spring 2012 ensemble.

The lavender coloured cropped top is paired with a black A-line skirt and worked well on Rooney.  She wore it with a ponytail, and black sandals.

I think it's probably because she's new to the red carpet scene that anything Rooney wears feels fresh.  But I'm ready to see her in new looks now.

Rooney Mara In Rodarte - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Madrid Premiere

Rooney Mara went for a Rodarte Fall 2011 dress at the Madrid premiere of  'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.

Like most of her promotional tour outfits, this too was rather muted but looked pretty great on Rooney.
The pale silk, dotted gown had a halter neck and a mini train.

Rooney kept her hair sleek like always and wore a pale pink lip colour.

Rooney Mara In Givenchy - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Madrid Photocall

After attending the Parisian premiere of the movie, Rooney Mara traveled to Madrid for the  photocall of  'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.

She wrapped up in a Givenchy Pre-Fall 2012 wool jacket that is made up of three earthy tones and has a flared bottom.

A black skirt, black tights & ankle-strap Brian Atwood heels finished off her look.

Rooney Mara In Louis Vuitton - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Paris Premiere

I'm glad that the first red carpet appearance of this year was not a disappointment!  Thanks, Rooney Mara.

The actress walked the red carpet for the Paris premiere of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' in a Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2012 dress.

The black dress has a heavily beaded bodice along with a bell-shaped skirt with more beading.

I think the LBD looks charming on Rooney, especially with the sophisticated (and shiny) hair & perfect make-up.

Also, she didn't wear pumps.  Instead she opted for minimal black sandals which I love.

Rooney Mara In Rodarte for Opening Ceremony - 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' Appearance

Rooney Mara went for a Rodarte for Opening Ceremony dress, for an appearance on a TV talk show.

The off-shoulder black dress had a full skirt and a white high neck top underneath.

Love this edgy yet demure dress on Rooney, which she wore with sideswept bangs and Prada ankle-straps.

Rooney Mara In Roksanda Ilincic - 'Today' Show Appearance

Rooney Mara wore a lovely Roksanda Ilincic Spring 2012 dress for an appearance on the 'Today' show in NYC.

The ivory coloured sleeveless dress has a crew-neck & a drop-waist ending with a fluted skirt.

This is Rooney's second appearance in a Roksanda Ilincic ensemble (click here) and I'm liking the partnership!

Rooney Mara In Prabal Gurung - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' NYC Premiere

Rooney Mara wore a Prabal Gurung Spring 2012 dress for the NYC premiere of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.

The black, silk crepe dress with sheer inserts, fluttery sleeves & hem was great on Rooney and this has to be my favourite look from her so far as it's a mix of gothic & glam.

She wore it with a sleek hairstyle, red lips and Christian Louboutin Mary-Jane heels.

Once you've done fawning over the beautiful dress, feel free to oggle at Mr. Craig.

Rooney Mara In Roksanda Ilincic - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Sweden Premiere

First of all, Rooney Mara got rid of the bangs, thank heaven.

She wore a Roksanda Ilincic Resort 2012 jumpsuit to the Swedish premiere of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' that had a twist halter neck & a cutout with flared bottoms.

The way Rooney wore it reminded me of Keira Knightley, who wore a dress from the same collection in November (click here).

Rooney Mara In Givenchy - 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' London Premiere

Rooney Mara wore a Givenchy Fall Couture 2011 gown to the London premiere of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', posing on the red carpet with Daniel Craig by her side.

The white gown with shoulder and waist cutouts & beautiful embroidery was lined quite generously for Rooney.

Rooney didn't disappoint me with the hair & make-up this time around.
