Claire Danes in J. Mendel - 2012 Met Ball

Claire Danes wore a white J. Mendel dress to this year's Met Ball.

She was stunning in the asymmetrical, silk custom dress.  We're accustomed to seeing Claire in conservative, covered up dresses so this was a surprise of sorts.

But she did wear it very well and her hairstyle was possibly my favourite for the night.  Make-up consisted of a flick of mascara and a nude lip colour.  She also carried a sky-blue clutch and wore heels by Christian Louboutin.

Claire Danes in Vivienne Westwood - 2012 White House Correspondants Dinner

Claire Danes attended the White House Correspondants Dinner in an unexpected label.

She wore a Vivienne Westwood dress.  I was somewhat disappointed to see her in such a sloppy dress as we're used to seeing Claire look polished and immaculate always.  There isn't a single aspect of her look that I liked.

Claire Danes in Lanvin - 2012 Time 100 Gala

Claire Danes attended the annual Time 100 Gala that honours the 100 most influential people in the world in NYC last night.

She wore a burgundy Lanvin Pre-Fall 2012 dress that had a leather feel to it. As great as she looked in it, what surprised me most was her styling.  In a good way.

Instead of the predictable side-parted hair, she wore it in a voluminous style but didn't stop at that.  A statement necklace and edgy nude sandals, instead of the usual peep-toes completed the look.

Claire Danes in Narciso Rodriguez - 'Hysteria' Premiere

Claire Danes joined her husband husband, Hugh Dancy at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of his movie 'Hysteria'.

She wore a Narciso Rodriguez dress for the evening.

I adore this hot pink colour on Claire, especially as she hasn't been seen in the colour on the red carpet before.  And with the black piping and impeccable fit, the sleek look does wonders for her.

Claire Danes in Preen - HBO's 'Girls' Premiere

Last night, HBO's new TV comedy series 'Girls' premiered in NYC (I will definitely be watching this!).

Claire Danes, who was in attendance wore a Preen Fall 2012 dress.

The full sleeved, printed silk dress is wonderful despite being dark and moody.  And while I love the unexpected dash of lime green on the left shoulder, I'm not so sure that Claire was the correct person to wear this; I could definitely see it on Tilda Swinton, or Marisa Tomei.

Claire as usual wore it with straight, side-parted hair and black peep-toes.

Claire Danes in Giambattista Valli - The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Presents an Evening with 'Homeland'

Claire Danes attended The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Presents an Evening with 'Homeland' event.

The actress, who won the 2012 Golden Globe for her role in 'Homeland', wore a Giambattista Valli top & skirt.

As usual, Claire looks composed despite this being an eclectic (and wonderful) mix of bold prints.

Claire Danes In Valentino - Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Claire Danes resembled a life-size doll in her Valentino Pre-Fall 2012 gown.

The über romantic gown with a rose-printed tulle bodice and a ruffled skirt may look pink from the pictures, but it's actually a sweet red colour.

Claire was the last person I would have imagined wearing this dress (I was hoping Shailene Woodley would) as she tends to prefer simple, classic silhouettes.  However, she totally knocked it out of the park.

A simple updo and pink lips let the dress remain the centre of attention.

Fashion Roundup

Anne Hathaway attended an event in LA wearing this black, halter-neck black column dress which is doing no favours for her!  The styling is so-so too.

Elle MacPherson wore a Tom Ford Fall 2011 dress for the National Television Awards in London.  Between the severe, braided ponytail, statement earrings and the embellished dress, this is just a mess.

Emmy Rossum did a television show appearance in a gorgeous, fuschia coloured DKNY Pre-Fall 2012 frock with a tied top and pleated skirt that she wore with nude pumps.  I would have preferred to see the top fully tucked in though.

For another television appearance, she opted for a printed Peter Pilotto sheath which she wore with a ponytail, lots of eyeliner, a black bangle and black pumps.  Another winning ensemble.

Jessica Chastain attended the Armani Prive Spring 2012 Couture show in Paris wearing a dress by the brand.  Love this black dress with a beaded orange collar, it's quite unexpected on Jessica.

Claire Danes, who was chosen as Harvard's Hast Pudding Woman of the Year wore a printed Oscar de la Renta frock for the ceremony.  This look was just screaming for a pop of colour right?

Olivia Palermo attended the Christian Dior Spring 2012 couture show in a cream coloured tunic & leather leggings which she accessorised with a statement necklace, a feather cuff, a bright clutch and black booties.

Zoe Saldana promoted her new movie at the Sundance Film Festival in this cute jean-top-blazer combo that she spruced up with forest green Brian Atwood shoes.

2012 Golden Globes - Black

Rooney Mara wore black, as was expected.  The Best Actress (Drama) nominee wore a Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2012 gown.  The plunge-neck tulle bodice & long column skirt were simple yet perfect for the scale of the event.  Rooney chose to sweep back her bangs and wore very less make-up.

Debra Messing wore a taffeta, one-shoulder dress by Monique Lhuillier, choosing to add colour via her fabulous Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Kate Winslet went for colour block in a gorgeous, silk dress by Jenny Packham.  The key-hole top & white skirt were punched up with a gold embellished waist belt.   Kate wore her hair in an updo and added gold earrings by Fred Leighton & carried an embellished clutch.

Julianne Moore left behind her crazy dress sense and opted instead, for this strapless, Chanel gown that has a peplum silhouette (tad unnecessary).  She wore her hair in shiny waves and added green tasseled earrings (an emerging trend & gorgeous with her hair colour).

Mila Kunis, who's the new face of Miss Dior, wore a classic gown from the Christian Dior Spring 2012 collection.  Compared to her efforts last year, this felt a little bland.  But then she was only presenting so it's fair.  She put her hair in a sleek bun and wore Cartier jewels.

Salma Hayek looked beautiful in a Gucci Premiere gown.  The strapless dress had a bedazzled bodice and a shimmery pleated skirt.  Salma kept her hair down, in tousled waves,  wore a neutral lip colour, gold statement earrings and carried a mini satin clutch.

Zooey Deschanel was a pleasant surprise in a custom Prada dress.  The 'New Girl' actress, who was nominated in the Best Actress in a TV Series (Comedy) was delightful in the unusual black satin dress that had lime green and silver beading.  A glossy, retro hairstyle and pink lips completed her look.

Claire Danes wore a custom J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2012 gown which according to the Best Actress in a TV Series award winning actress, was "all about the back".  And rightly so, the backless monochromatic gown was bang on trend with all that embellishment.  Claire went with a messy bun (which we rarely see on her) and red lips which were nice changes.

Meryl Streep, who won the Best Actress (Drama) award for 'Iron Lady' wore a black shirt dress with lace & a taffeta skirt - all by Alessandra Rich.  She looks elegant.  And can do no wrong.

Claire Danes In Donna Karan - 2012 AFI Awards

Claire Danes wore a white Donna Karan Pre-Fall 2012 dress to the AFI luncheon yesterday.

The sleeveless white frock has a plunge neck and a hemline that goes below the knees.

Claire wore it with a thick navy coloured belt, matching it with suede pumps.
It's very a ladylike and classy affair, typical of Claire.

Jessica Chastain In Balenciaga - 2012 Critics' Choice Movie Awards

Jessica Chastain switched things up in a Balenciaga gown for the event.

She wore a bubble-gum pink column gown that has a large cowl neck.
The colour is gorgeous on her, the make-up is lovely but I can't say the same about the fit of the dress - it's loose on her bust but also at the bottom.

A sleek updo, Palladium jewelery & Jimmy Choo heels completed her look.

PS.  Doesn't her look remind you of Claire Danes (click here) at last year's Golden Globes

Claire Danes In Valentino - Valentino Garavani's Virtual Museum Opening

Claire Danes attended the opening of the Valentino Virtual Museum in NYC wearing a Valentino Spring 2012 frock.

The red lace number with cap sleeves and a knee-length skirt looked great on Claire and I was pleasantly surprised to see her wear lots of eyeliner - a first for Claire.

Claire Danes In Valentino - NYWIF Muse Awards for Vision & Achievement

Claire Danes made an appearance in Valentino, for the New York Women in Film & Television Muse Awards for Vision & Achievement held in NYC.

The crew-neck dress with red & pink accents and a black skirt had a cool chic feel to it.

I wish Claire had put in some eye catching accessory, like gold jewelery to make an impact.

She wore it instead with plain straight hair and black peeptoes.

Shailene Woodley In Prabal Gurung - The Hollywood Reporter's Annual 'Power 100: Women In Entertainment Breakfast'

Shailene Woodley wore a Prabal Gurung Resort 2012 dress to the event, you may remember the dress on Claire Danes last month (click here).

Shailene looks elegant yet youthful in this textured frock and love her simple hairstyle & make-up.

Sometimes less really is more.

Claire Danes In Prabal Gurung - 'An Evening With Patti Lupone & Mandy Patinkin'

Claire Danes wore a dress from the Prabal Gurung Resort 2012 collection, for the opening night of the Broadway play, 'An Evening With Patti Lupone & Mandy Patinkin'.

The sleeveless dress with a ribbed top & a textured, bell-shaped skirt looked great on Claire, and I'm so glad she added colour via the red lipstick!

Claire topped it with a black coat; straight locks, black stone earrings & black peeptoes completed her look.

TV Time

Claire Danes, Rachel Bilson and Kristen Bell were all seen at a summer TV event.

Claire went for a breezy colour block dress by Reed Krakoff, which she wore with a high messy bun, red lips and a sleek gold cuff.

Not one to usually wear her hair in different styles, it was refreshing to see her in this hairdo.

Rachel Bilson brought colour and print to the event in this mix-and-match outfit. I think I could definitely see this outfit on Olivia Palermo so it has merit but somehow, it's overwhelming on Rachel.

Kristen Bell wore a Versus LBD with plain black heels - nothing new or exciting.

At The Met Ball!

*Click on the images for a clearer look.

Zoe Saldana stayed true to Calvin Klein in this refreshing citrus sha
ded column gown. It's colourful, and lively and the statement gold necklace looks perfect with it.

Claire Danes also wore Calvin Klein, in the form of this metallic gown with a v-neck. It's minimal but I wish she'd worn something to add a bit of interest to this look.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore her usual red-carpet uniform of a neutral, no-fuss dress. This time it's by Stella McCartney. I wish she would play around with other colours and get out of this nude dress obssession!

A pregnant and glowing Kate Hudson also wore Stella McCartney. The champagne silk gown has richness but the fitting hasn't been done well to accommodate her body and the headband seems like an afterthought.

Jessica Alba looked wonderful in a golden Ralph Lauren gown. She looks beautiful! Flawless.

Kristen Bell's lame Tory Burch gown was a little boring, it didn't have much going on and felt too simple for the occassion.

Christina Ricci's Zac Posen gown had drama, and lots of it! This is a love/hate look and unfortunately, I fall on the hate side.

Chloe Sevigny also disappointed in an ill-fitted Alexander McQueen dress. It does nothing in terms of colour, style or design.
Maggie Gyllenhaal also wore Stella McCartney; I loved this glitzy midnight blue number on her.

Rihanna also wore Stella McCartney, but the hair killed this look for me!

At the Opera

Spotted: Various celebrities at the Metropolitan Opera opening of the play "Le Comte Ory", sponsored by Yves Saint Laurent.

Actress Rebecca Hall stood out in a sea of black in a striking full sleeved gown by YSL in an orangey-red hue.

Former supermodel Claudia Schiffer sashayed in wearing a beautiful black gown with a high neck.

Claire Danes kept things simple in a one-shoulder black gown with a split by YSL.

While Emmy Rossum decided to go for colourful drama in an emerald green silk-chiffon gown by YSL which she paired with bright purple heels. My only pick is the loud make up, the dress and shoes are giving so much colour that the red lipstick was not necessary.

Olivia Munn went for high drama too, in a strapless velvet YSL gown which she wore with gloves - love how she's having fun with an otherwise boring concept of a black gown.

The Olsen twins stuck to their kooky style. Ashley Olsen wore a pencil sheath with a jade fur stole while Mary-Kate wore a sheer black gown, topping it with an oversize coat.

Celebrating Costume Designers

Costume designers have a such a big contribution towards the movies that we watch! The first impressions are always made by appearance and the designers have a big contribution in helping create 'looks' for characters. The Costume Designers Guild Awards took place in LA last night and here are the famous few attendees.

Kristin Davis looked very pretty in a monochromatic polka dot gown by Oscar
de la Renta - it suits her style perfectly!

Halle Berry turned heads in a stunning red lace dress by Elie Saab - she should have worn something like this at the Golden Globes!

Demi Moore wore an electric blue ruched column gown with a fishtail braid and drop diamond earrings, I'm skeptical about the ruching near the leg but all in all, this look is a winner. The colour looks gorgeous on her and once again she defies nature by looking like this at forty-freaking-eight.

Claire Danes wore a grey Lanvin dress with embellishments - it's really dull and I'm not particularly liking the slicked back hair.

Fashion Roundup

Dianna Agron had a high and a low this week in fashion stakes. The outfit she wore for a promotional event for "I Am Number Four" was a little dowdy, I think it's those cowboy-esque boots that are ruining it, some sharp black heels would have elevated the look. She shut it down with her second look though! The swingy black frock, patent black heels and the House of Lavande statement pendant make for an incredibly elegant look.
Natalie Portman wore the Michael Kors asymmetrical hem gown with the gold accents at the Directors Guild Awards - it's similar to her look for the Critics Choice Awards but it works! Why fix something that's not broken?

Dita Von Teese looked great in a shimmery peach
dress by Jenny Packham- lovin' the 50's inspired look.
Claire Danes was also at the Directors Guild Awards, in a tight black Roland Mouret sheath - it was a little unexpected from her but she's working it.

Amy Adams perfected the nude trend with this soft chiffon dress, with saffron coloured peeptoes.
Also, how gorgeous does her hair look!

Maggie Gyllenhaal wore a kitschy wrap jacket over a black skirt - I like the jacket, just think that it would have looked better with simple denims.

Kate Walsh wore a bright red Anita Ko dress at her perfume launch - she looked great!
